Summer Coffee at Home

Summer Coffee at Home

Good Morning Summer!

Waking up in the morning on a summer day, and looking forward to your coffee ritual is a simple pleasure that we can truly enjoy. As the morning light streams through the window, you can pour yourself a fresh cold brew, prepped the day before, or you can make a great instant "ice" coffee! I have a few tips and tools for you here.

If you want to make an easy instant "ice" coffee, here is my favorite method:

With a Hario V60 Dripper you can make a pour over "ice" coffee.  All you have to do is brew hot coffee directly over ice. Replace 1/2 the water you would normally brew with for quality ice placed in the base of your coffee pot (split the ratio of water to 1/2 hot water & 1/2 ice).

If you don't love your ice maker quality, you can make delicious ice cubes with filtered water in an ice tray

You can do the same in an automatic coffee brewer as well (again split the ratio of water to 1/2 hot water & 1/2 ice placed in the base of the coffee pot).  When the hot coffee hits the ice, it instantly cools the brew. The coffee holds its depth of flavor and aroma and doesn't get watered down.

However you brew your "ice" coffee you can add your favorite milk or, if you want a refreshing dairy free bright coffee, try adding tonic water. Tonic pairs really well with coffee and creates a truly unique and refreshing beverage!

And then there is cold brew! You can add a cold brew ritual into your daily routine, preparing a cold brew bottle ready for the next day (12- 18 hour brew time). This is so easy, and creates delicious cold brew for you to enjoy at home. I recommend a quality coarse ground, light roasted coffee selection. With cold brew, light roasted flavors shine bright and the subtle notes are accentuated. A Hario Cold Brew Bottle makes a wonderful option, as it's simple, sleek and beginner barista friendly!

For all coffee brewing, follow the brew guides and ratios that accompany your brewer. Also, I recommend an easy to use, home burr grinder, such as this Bodum Bistro Burr Grinder.  I also recommend a coffee scale, in order to ensure you are brewing at the proper coffee - water or ice ratio.  Another important element in perfecting your brew is quality water. Make sure to use filtered water that tastes pure and clean, it makes a big difference!

I hope that your summertime brews are refreshing, bright and fun like summer should be!

All the Best Always,

Nikole
